Ammos & Lithos Villa
Naxos

The Villa

Where Cycladic
architecture breathes

Ammos & Lithos — sand and stone — is more than a name. It is the essence of this place: the cool stone underfoot, the warm sand a few minutes' walk away, and the unhurried rhythm of island life.

Designed in the pure Cycladic tradition — whitewashed walls, timber pergola, open terraces — the villa sits in Kastraki, on Naxos's breathtaking west coast, facing Paros across the water.

Beaches

The sea

Naxos has some of the finest beaches in the Cyclades — long, sandy, and far less crowded than Mykonos or Santorini. Most are on the west coast, facing Paros, and easy to reach. The east coast is wilder and worth the drive. Below is our selection, sorted by distance from the villa. For the full picture, Greeka.com has an excellent overview of 30+ beaches with maps and descriptions.

Your closest beach — a long stretch of fine sand that stays quiet even in peak season. The sea gets rougher on windy days, making it a favourite for kitesurfers.

Right next to Paradiso taverna — one of our favourite spots on the island. Long, picturesque beach with soft sand and crystal water, calmer than the resorts to the north.

SPECTACULAR. If you do one thing on the island, make it a day trip to the east coast. Moutsouna and Psili Ammos are a completely different world — wild, untouched, and almost deserted even in August. The drive through the island's interior (mountain villages, ancient temples) is itself worth the trip. Allow a full day.

Good traditional food, a 7-minute walk or 1-minute drive away. Gets busy in peak summer and the service is affected — worth knowing before you go. "Enjoyment, delight" — the name says it all.

Family-run traditional Greek restaurant with great quality-to-price ratio. The veal steak (brizola moscharisia) is top notch. Maria and Giorgos are fantastic hosts — the kind of place you return to every trip.

Est. 1958, third-generation family-run taverna. Hosts Vaso and Demetra are absolutely delightful — together with their husbands and grandma Katerina in the kitchen, it's as close as it gets to eating at home. They'll make you feel part of the family. If Katerina cooks the Imam (ask with feta!), it's a must — so good it's a curse. The mushroom risotto is incredible, and the grilled calamari is the best you'll find anywhere.

The Island

Five thousand years
in the making

The largest of the Cyclades has been inhabited continuously since the late neolithic period. As you explore Naxos, you trace the footsteps of many peoples before us — each layer still visible in the landscape.

Late Neolithic and Cycladic civilisation — giant Kouros statues carved from Naxian marble, still standing today across the island
~500 BC
Classical period — the Portara, the great marble gateway of the unfinished Temple of Apollo, still guards the island's harbour
Byzantine
Over 200 Byzantine churches remain scattered across the island, many still in active use today

The Kastro of Naxos Town and the magnificent Bazeos Tower — a proud heritage of Venetian occupation that shaped the island's character
